It is the second wetland of of Catalonia. Comprise a set of lakes, paddocks and flood the rivers Muga and Fluvià. Constitutes a privileged habitat for wildlife, especially waterbirds.

The Natural Park of Aiguamolls de l’Empordà is one of the most famous and iconic natural areas of Catalonia, since its creation in 1983, was the result of a long and intense defense campaign initiated in 1976 to stop a development project that sought to build a residential marina for 60,000 people in the lagoon system located between the mouths of the rivers Muga and Fluvià.
